As you all know, Ozabella and I
are bird watchers.
Today I am going to share some
pictures of one of our favorite
friends....
Woody....
yep, you got it....
Woody the Woodpecker.
This is a Pileated Woodpecker.
The Pileated Woodpecker is a very large
woodpecker with a long neck
and a triangular crest that
sweeps off the back of the head.
The bill is long and chisel-like,
about the length of the head.
They don't even mind sharing....
In flight, the wings are broad and
the bird can seem crowlike.
Here's a close up for you....
I didn't know they were white under
the wings....
Later -- Remington --
bird watching is AWESOME!
-- out!

awesome under wing shot.. i have not seen that before. a couple years ago we were sitting at a table resting from hiking at Emerson Point, we heard tap tap tap and about 20 feet from us was not one but FIVE of these guys on one tree, pecking away... what a sight.
Fabulous bird pics! We have great downy woodpeckers occasionally at our feeder.

I like the open wing picture a lot. Perfect timing, I think! Snow here today-you'd be happy, but not me as I must drive to school on slick roads.♥♫

Loved seeing your Pileated WP. We have a family of them living at our house in NY. Well, not living IN the house, but rather in the woods. Mommy loves taking their pictures. They are so prehistoric looking.
Good job!
