May Day!

Happy May Day,
my friends!

Today is a celebration of the arrival of spring.
It is believed that the holiday originated
in Roman times as a festival of flowers.

One of the most popularly known May Day
traditions is to hang a basket full of
spring flowers and/or
other small gifts on a neighbor's doorknob.
The trick is you don't want the neighbor
to see you!
If you get caught, you are supposed
to get a kiss.
So DON'T get caught!
(unless you want too....ha ha!)

Later -- Remington --
I may just walk a little slower
from someone's house....
-- out!

Ahhhhh Rem thank you for the beautiful spring bouquet. This reminded Mom of a very funny thing that happened to a young man she used to work with. He decided May 1 was a perfect day to propose to his lady love. So he bought a beautiful bouquet and tied her engagement ring around one of the flowers. He was waiting out of sight to seal the deal. Well she was running late when she found them so she picked up the flowers and jumped in her car and off she drove. His car was parked around the corner so he had to run quick to his car so he could catch up with her. SHE SAID YES

I would give you a big Kiss and a Hug if I saw you! :)
The sun just peeked out of the fog here on the Oregon coast, so it must be celebrating the day, too! YAY!

Happy May Day Rem!!!! We never celebrated it, I guess I missed out. So I didn't know any of this. The only thing I associate with May is the Maypole. Which reminds me of Maypo, now I am hungry.

What a nice tradition. Does it happen all through May or just on May 1?

What a lovely tradition! The flowers around here are blooming in all of their glory. We love the bright rose bushes and lilacs and cosmos that abound on our walk route. We even have bright red flowers in the frot planter and purple roses blooming! Happy May Day! Imagine a fragrant basket of violets hanging on your doorknob...they are from The White Dog Army!

Years ago, when we resided in the city, our next door neighbors brought everybody "bouquets" of flowers!! It was a sweet gesture, I always thought!! ;-D

That is a great tradition, much better than a maypole dance. It would be nice if it caught on in this country. Bet you are going to be walking very slowly at Sasha's house.
