Keep your eyes to the sky....

From the RRC
(Remington Research Center)

Remington the Full Moon Reporter here....

Tonight keep your eyes to the sky for the

Full Worm Moon

This is what I have found in my extensive research....
In this month the ground softens and the earthworm casts reappear, inviting the return of the robins.

Makes sense to me!
However, I did find out something else....
“The March 19 full moon will be a special type of full moon since it will coincide with the moon’s perigee. The moon’s orbit around the Earth is not circular, but elliptical. When the moon is at its closest approach to Earth we say that the Moon is at perigee. The furthest point of this elliptical orbit is known as apogee. As such the Moon comes closer to the Earth once in about every month, but not every time the full moon too falls on the same day, Dr Jayaratne said.

He said on March 19, 2011 only will full moon and perigee coincide, but the Sun and Moon will be lined up with the Earth’s equator since it’s almost the time of the vernal equinox (where sun passes the equator Dr Jayaratne said on March 19, the moon lies only 356,575 kilometres away.

This means it will look REALLY close to us!

They are calling it
"The Super Moon"!

I can't wait -- this should be really cool!
Let's hope it is not cloudy so
Mike (our Full Moon photographer)
can get a good picture.

So you know what to look for I found a
picture on the internet.

Later -- Remington --
listen closely.....I will be howling at the moon
-- out!

this morning the moon was hanging so low in the sky we could see the bottom of the pool in the dark, the back yard was bathed in shadows and bright light, we stood and stared. and guess what i found on the pool deck yesterday. an earthworm, a big one. i rescued him from the concrete and put him in a safe place away from Jake the hunter. thanks for the info on the super moon

I know you're in charge of the Moon around here, Remington. I'm glad you're keeping an eye on things because we've heard that this one could cause all kinds of odd problems and we think there have been plenty of problems on the planet already. Keep us posted, kthnx!

Thanks, Remington. Mom is never good at getting moon shots, but she tried last night - it was very bright and beautiful coming up behind our trees. They didn't come out, though!

We have been watching it but not very impressed. Dad went outside to take some photos but didn't stay out very long. He even had this weird thing with 3 legs on it to hold the camera. BOL Silly dad.

We always come to the RRC when we want information on the moon phases. It was sunny and nice here all day and we were hoping for a great view of the moon tonight but the clouds moved in just before dark, bummer.
