Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day.

Do your part to make this a better place to live
for generations to come.

Here is a fun project for you to try --

You can make a nifty magazine holder from an old cereal box.

Cut off top of cereal box. Halfway across top of box, cut at a 45 degree angle down to front of your magazine holder, cut straight across then back up other side at the same angle.  You can paint the box or use old newspaper or wrapping paper to decorate it!
**********************************
Beth also takes old plastic milk containers and cuts a hole in them and uses them to carry bird food out to the feeders.  Also large plastic coffee containers to scoop the deer feed out of the bags.
Every little bit helps....
**********************************
If you have some tips on how to make use of what would be garbage -- please share it!
It may give the rest of us more ideas on how to help out the earth!

And you may want to check out a REALLY good book....

Later -- Remington -- The Earth friendly Newfie -- off to recycle something -- out!

That's a cool way to reuse a cereal box, Remington. You are very smart. Myself, I woulda just ate it and it would have recycled on it's own as fertilizer for the yard.
I can't read but I will see if I can get my paws on that Spongebob book and recycle it also!
Happy Earth Day and thanks for doin' your part to make it a better place.

Our Mom absolutely loves the cereal box magazine holder - she is accessing the size of our cereal boxes in her brain as she types this!!

We are using less and waiting longer. So many of us want instant gratification. For instance, most cleaners (if you read the directions, who does that?) don't say spray and wipe, they say spray and wait. And by doing this we use less. And by using less we save some "green" and create less trash.

Well, my favorite recycling activity is ....LEFTOVERS! I carefully consume any leftover muzzer mixes in my kibble...(Or I steal!)

Me and Teka also preclean any dinner plate that comes our way, thus saving on the pre-rinse before it goes in our dishwasher.

And muzzer buys her clothes at thrift shops and resale stores, garage sales and estate sales. But she has always done that. She says it is "frugal." Dad says she is too cheap to pay retail.

Is that enough?

Can you tell my hoomans are aging hippies?

Hi Remington and Beth,
The mailman brought me a package yesterday!!!! It was a very nice package Remmy!! Thank you for the very pretty note pad, Beth !!!!
We try very hard to be green. We always use our own bags when shopping. I too use things that I cut out to carry food out to the birds and other critters!! Both Tom and I are keepers
We often find other things to do with something we have kept!!
Thanks Beth for my note pad!!!

Around our house, Mom helps the environment by using green cleaning products, she makes all of her own cleaning products instead of buying the ones that contain icky chemicals! And we also use washable pee pads instead of the disposable ones...that may not save a lot on electricity to wash them, but at least they're not filling up the landfills!!

Hey Remington,
My mom cuts off a big section of the milk jugs so it makes like a giant scoop and lets the munchkins paint theirs up and then they use them to play catch with a ball with each other or you could put stickers on them.
Great earth saving ideas. My mom loves to make trash to tresure stuff outta stuff!! BOL

Happy Earth day

Happy Earth Day!! That is a great idea about the cereal box Remington - thanks for sharing! Let's see what tip can we give? Mom takes old magazines, cuts the pages into strips and makes beads from them for making jewelry. And of course the rings from when you open milk, or other bottles with that type of ring, make a great cat toy - so does lots of other stuff that the people think is garbage!

Remington, you and Beth are so smart. We really like the idea of the magazine holder, maybe one for cookbooks too. We reuse as many cans and containers as we can and the rest get recycled. We have made planters out of decorated coffee cans. We always take reusable bags for groceries.

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day, my friend! It is our only world, treat it with respect, right? I help dad compost and mom uses old coffee grounds to fertilize the rose bushes. Mom also uses the backs of old envelope for lists and scratch paper. Love the magazine holder idea and it is so cool that Beth spins your fur into yarn!
