Bird Dog Reporting....

On today's bird watching segment we are going to talk about the Cardinal....

Boy cardinals are brilliant red all over, with a reddish bill and black face around the bill. Girl cardinals are pale brown overall with reddish tinges in the wings, tail, and crest. They have the same black face and red-orange bill as the boys.

Northern Cardinals can be found in areas such as backyards, parks, woodlots, and shrubby forest edges just as this one is....right at the edge of our little forest in our back yard.

They really like sunflower seeds. So Beth takes some out everyday for them.  And if you leave undergrowth in your backyard you may have cardinals nesting there!  That would be so cool!

Aren't they a pretty bird?  I love to look at them!  They show up so nicely on the snow.

So until next time....Remington -- the Bird Dog -- out!

Wow Remington, we love you bird dog hat. Cardinals are really cool birds but we never see them where we live now. You know, you would make a really great park ranger. Could we call you Ranger Remington?

Looks like your spring is running ahead of ours - I have yet to spot one!

How Sam Sees It said...

We get lots of cardinals here in the valley - which is actually kind of nice. All the native bird species are various shades of brown and grey so it is nice to see a spot of color from time to time!
